CBSE is the most popular school board in India.
New Delhi: India has primarily four boards of school education, namely Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council of Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE), State boards and International Baccalaureate (IB).
1) CBSE: CBSE is the most popular school board in India with over 9,000 CBSE affiliated schools in the country and presence in 21 nations across the globe. It conducts exams for Class X and XII. The stress in this board is on application of Science and Maths related subjects.
2) CISCE: The CBSE equivalent here is the CISCE. It is a private body that was founded in 1956 to set and adapt University of Cambridge’s examination system to India. This body now conducts three examinations, namely Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) exam for class X, ISC (Indian School Certificate) exam for class XII, CVE (Certificate for Vocational Education) exam for class XII.
3) State Boards: As the name suggests, each state has its own board of education that conducts certificate examination for class X and class XII. Some state boards, such as Rajasthan board also conduct exams in class eight.
4) IB: It is a non profit educational foundation that was set up in 1968 and now works with over 3,000 schools in 141 countries. It conducts exams for Class X and XII. The board is gaining prominence in new high end schools in India. It is currently limited to metro and large Tier-I cites in India.
